Part of Proportions

After a nice weekend (that weather was perfect and I spent a lot of it walking my dog down at the beach) we are back in school and learning about proportion.  Since proportion is related to ratios and equivalent fractions, we first practiced ratios, equivalent fractions and comparing fractions.

Ratio review:

Comparing fractions:

After completing the online activity and watching the video above, we had the chance to do our "Up on a Diagonal" dance to help us determine if two ratios (fractions) make an equal proportion.

Examples from class:

Tonight's homework is to complete numbers 1-18 on your proportions worksheet.  (We won't be completing the bottom tonight, but will be working on it tomorrow, so please don't cross it off.)

A bit more Ratio!

Today we corrected last night's homework and got to play with ratios a bit more.  We were able to play a fun game in a few classes, but practiced in all of them!

We will move on to Proportions on Monday!  Have a good weekend!

Answers to Tuesday's assignement

Answers to Tuesday's assignment.  (I'm writing this on Monday and scheduling the post for Tuesday afternoon.  I'll update you on my adventures today later on!)

1-5 will have different answers depending on what you drew.

Error in my answers!!!  For number 6, black is 9 and pink is 9.  Sorry for the mistake.  I copied the 15% as the answer for black and then used that wrong answer to do the pink!  Sorry!!!

Study, study!  Quiz tomorrow!

The Quiz is Wednesday now!

Today we studied and reviewed for the quiz which is now on WEDNESDAY!

As you all know by now, I will be out tomorrow and possibly tomorrow to film as a contestant on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?"  I don't yet know when the show will air, but don't worry, I will let you know!  Wish me luck and I will be in touch through the blog!
Notes from class today:

Answers to the questions on the yellow study guide:

A couple of Percentage problems:

How to complete tonight's homework:  Remember, you need to make up your own quiz on one sheet of paper and a answer key on the other sheet.  I know it might take some time, but the back side should go pretty quickly and it will help you study better than almost anything else.

Tomorrow you will partner up and take each others' quizzes and then grade them.  The sub will also have another review sheet and I will post the answers tomorrow night, so you can check your work!

Have a good night and good luck on the quiz on Wednesday!  I'll miss you guys!

Playing with Percents and a Dice Game

It was a blast playing the dice game with you today!  You all did a great job of turning the fractions into decimals and percents!  Tonight's homework is to complete the book side of the percent worksheet.  The videos below can help you if you are having trouble.

Remember, we have a quiz on Tuesday, so keep studying.  We will work on word problems in class tomorrow!

Re-remind about Remind 101

Hello to any and all new visitors!  I wanted to make sure that I reposted information about Remind 101 so you can sign up if you haven't already.

After sending your text, you will receive a confirmation about joining and a request to share your name.  Your name will only be shared with me, I won't be able  to access your phone number and I will be the only one able to send out messages via this service.  The message is send to an account set up by Remind 101, so that phone number is property of the service (so you can't reach me through that number).

I'm looking forward to communicating with all of you this way!

More Fraction Action and Decimal... uh... nothing rhymes... Action!

As we did on Friday, we spend more time working on converting fractions and decimals today.  We reviewed the various techniques and practiced independently too!  Tomorrow we are going to play a game with converting and continue to bring percentages into our work.  There is no homework tonight, but it wouldn't hurt to practice you math facts and long division...

Long division reminder HERE!

(Yes, I know that this is a strange video!)
