Online Homework!

Good afternoon or evening everyone!  Welcome to your homework.  As you know from class, tonight's homework is to work on the online games and activities for 15 to 20 minutes.  Feel free of course to do more than that, especially if you think that the problems are fun or entertaining.  :)

Click the link or the image to go to the various sites I have found.  Try as many as you can!  (Apologies in advance if any of the links don't work or your computer doesn't like the system requirements)  Feel free to leave a comment to let me know you did your hw or share the site that you thought was the most fun!

Interactives allows you to both read descriptions of the various solids we have explored AND see the nets that can be used to create them.  Be sure to scroll down and click through the pages in the section!

More from Interactives with more of a focus on surface area and different shapes.  Again, scroll down and move through the notes.

On this page, you will see photographs of various solid shapes with links to printable nets that will allow you to make the various 3 dimensional shapes.  Print one out, fold it up (after coloring it if you want), and tape it together just like we did in class today!  (ps This is optional!)

Test your skills in finding volume and surface area!  Choose either the cube or the cuboid (rectangular prism) and determine the volume and surface area.  Be sure to grab a calculator to make it easier!

Exploding shapes.  Choose either of the links above and try to determine the volume of various rectangular prisms (cuboids) and irregular shapes by counting and rotating the shape.  Still having trouble?  "Explode" the shape and see each individual square unit that makes up the total volume!

Printable Nets.  Print out a sheet and fold it up or just explore the net for various 3D shapes.

Create your own rectangular or triangular prism by adjusting measurements, colors and sizes.  Watch the surface area and volume adapt as you modify your dimensions!

And if you are still having trouble with fraction problems, take some time to review the work from Friday's homework below:

I hope that this helps and you all liked the online homework!

Finally Friday!

Sorry that I had to give you homework this weekend.  It's just 6 problems, Page 4 (84) of the surface area packet.

I hope it goes well.  If you need more review on the fraction problems again, here's the answer to last night's fraction problem again...

and if you didn't cross cancel, here's what you might have done...

Have a great weekend!  I look forward to seeing you on Monday!  We will have a quiz next Friday!!!!

More Surface Area

Last Night's example with the fractions...

Tonight you need to do page three (186) in the Surface Area packet.  Work slowly and carefully and you should be fine!

In class tomorrow we will begin working with our boxes, so if you haven't brought one in OR found another, I'd love for you to bring more in!

Surface Area of 3D figures.

So, today was a little bit confusing...  I think that we are making good progress toward understanding the material even though today was a bit challenging!  Tonight's homework is to complete the front page of the surface area packet, BUT do not spend more than 20 minutes working on it!

This teacher rules.  His video is really clear and helpful!  It also matches the way I approached it in class by finding pairs that match and using colors to break it up.  (I also really like his magnet net!)

This goes over everything pretty well, but her measurements don't seem to match the proportions of her drawing.  The process is good though, so check out this video to help you:

Now for some examples from our homework...

#1

#2
Skipping ahead to the evil fraction one, #5
I strongly encourage you to use scrap paper so that you have enough room to work things out.  If the problems get too confusing, go grab a cereal box, tissue box or whatever to help you visualize the problem.  If it is a box that you don't need to keep, write your measurements and areas right on the box.  Whatever helps is good.

Now why do we need this?  Here's an example (complete with math) of when you might use surface area:

Good Luck on tonight's homework!

Stare at this for 15+ seconds...

Let me know what you see in the comments!

Pretty cool!

Thanks Emily H for the link!

I think I could do the job of the guy on the right in the hat!

Not that this can actually be done, but whoa!

Making boxes!

Thanks for your hard work in making those boxes today.  I know that they weren't the easiest things to put together...

Tonight's homework is to complete the last page of the volume packet.  There are only six problems, but they are all word problems so think logically and read carefully!

If you need a reminder on multiplying with fractions, take a look at this example from last night's homework:

You can also check out the video from yesterday's lesson!

Good luck on the homework!

Welcome Back!!!

I hope that you all had lovely vacations!  I heard about many adventures and relaxing times and I am glad that everyone had a nice time.  I will share some of my vacation photos later on!

Tonight's homework is to complete pages 2 and 3 in the volume packet (83 and 166).

You will notice that some of the problems include using fractions as you multiply.  Here's a quick tutorial to remind you how to do that...

Have a Happy Monday!  I was really glad to see you all again today!  More math tomorrow and please continue to bring in boxes!

Quiz Tomorrow

As you know, we have a quiz tomorrow.  In order to help you prepare, you should make a simple infographic covering the following topics:
Feel free to use a sheet of computer paper and markers/crayons/colored pencils/whatever to decorate your infographic.  I will collect these prior to the quiz tomorrow, so in with your finished product!

Irregular figures on a Grid

Good afternoon (or evening) ladies and gentlemen!

Tonight's homework assignment is a bit tricky, so I am including hints on how to break up each of the shapes below.  Good Luck, I hope these help!

If you want an example, we did number one in class today:

I hope this helps!

Also:  Remember that if you want to redo last night's homework, it is due tomorrow!  Here's a new copy of the assignment if you need it!

Have a good night!

Trapezoid areas!

Tonight's homework is the blue trapezoid worksheet.  Break the shapes up into a rectangle and triangle(s) and find the areas of the smaller shapes.  Add them together to find the total area!

Some examples from class:
