Correction Day

I know that this seems like a whole lot of work, but we’ve already accomplished so much in just one day!  As I promised in class, I have planned our work so that the nights when we have a lot of homework to complete, the problems are easier.  The tougher strands and problems are on nights with less work.  Additionally, we will complete the majority of the packet THIS week since the CMTs officially start next week and I don’t want you to have too much homework that week.  J

I decided to post the homework for these two weeks because I understand that you often have busy evenings and might need to plan accordingly.  I will provide you with class time every day to help you complete these assignments, usually about 15-20 minutes.  You might feel the need to go ahead a bit and that is fine by me as long as you feel confident with the material and continue to work during our class work time.  If you fall behind because of an absence or being unable to complete the homework due to your schedule, that is okay.  However, the entire packet must be completed by the start of your math class on Friday, March 9th.  If, for some reason (snow day, schedule change, me changing my mind, whatever) that date changes, I will let you know, but for now, assume that March 9th is the due date!

It seemed like everyone worked well today and felt pretty good about the material.  I promise you that this won’t be as awful and scary as you think it is and you will do a great job.  Ask questions, double check your work and do your best every day!  I can’t wait to put all those 100’s in the 100’s box!!!

Keep up the great work and let’s do some incredible work!

It's all in the hips!

Study for Statistics

Hey there ladies and gentlemen!

We've been doing a lot of really great, hard work in class and I know that you will do a wonderful job on tomorrow's test!  If you want to do some extra studying, you can use the "Report Cards" from the flip book project to help you study.  Find the statistics based on the data on their cards...

Mathematics:  This was the ORANGE card.
Science:  This was the LIGHT BLUE card.

Language Arts:  This was the TEAL card.

Social Studies:  This was the YELLOW card.
You should also review previous homework assignments and the study guide.  Use old data sets from homework to do more than just what you were assigned to do~ for example, use the stem and leaf worksheet data to create a histogram or a line plot.
Quick reminder:  (for some reason this never seems to stick and I don't want you to forget...)

Good Luck studying, I'm excited to grade some excellent tests tomorrow!!!!

She's back...

Vi Hart with another Mathy video!

-Miss K  :)

Start studying for our Statistics Test on Thursday!

I think that the majority of you finished the flip book today in class.  If not, please complete it tonight and hand it in to me during class.

I distributed a seven question study guide today that needs to be completed for homework.  If you were absent today or need another copy click on this link and print out a copy.

Otherwise, you should prepare for the Statistics Test by knowing:

Mean
Median
Mode
Range
Tally Charts
Frequency Charts
Line Plots
Stem and Leaf Diagrams
Histograms
Line Graphs

If you were able to complete the flip book and the study guide, you should be well prepared for the test.

See you tomorrow.  Have a Happy Valentine's Day!

Statistics Flip book!

Hey there everyone!

As you know, we began working on our statistics flip books today in class.  Tonight's homework is to spend about 10-15 minutes working on the flip book.  Do what you can, but remember, this assignment is just a small homework/classwork project, NOT a big grade.  Try to make it look nice and be sure your information is accurate, but don't worry about it being perfect or fancy.  I'm more interested in the math than it looking pretty!

Some reminders from class (My versions are super messy since I wrote them on the SmartBoard Quickly- Sorry!)

Tally and Frequency charts ( I stuck these together in my example)

Break up your data into groups of ten, ex: 21-30 or 81-90, and tally and total the amount of data that shows up in each grouping.  See previous posts and your notes if you need more information.

Line Plot:  Show your data on a number line.  Feel free to skip a section (I skipped 30-60 on mine) if that fits your data better.

Stem and Leaf plots should be pretty straightforward.  Use notes or this example if you have questions.

The line graph should show different grades over time.  You need to place dates along the bottom and then plot the corresponding scores.  Connect the points once they have all been plotted.

The Histogram is like a bar graph but the values on the bottom should be ranges and the bars should touch.  The ranges listed below should work for everyone's data, so feel free to copy them into your flip book.

I hope that these notes were helpful.  Don't spend too long working on your packet tonight, but get a little bit done so that we can finish the packet tomorrow.  :)

Remember that the test is on Thursday!  Study Study (That's what we are doing with the packet btw!)

Have a Happy Monday!

50% Friday

As in, about 50% of my brain was present today.  Thanks to those of you that were extra helpful and kind considering my head cold.  I appreciate it!

Today we reviewed your MMMR assignment from yesterday and also talked about Histograms and Box and Whiskers.  See info below:

:(

Hello wonderful students...

As you might have noticed from my voice today, I was beginning to feel a bit sick today.  I came home, took a nap hoping to feel better and unfortunately woke up feeling worse.  I am going to be home sick tomorrow.  I am not sure who the sub will be, but tomorrow you should correct tonight's homework, then work on two MMMR worksheets.  You should bring an IR book or some other homework in case you have extra time after finishing your work.  I really hope to see you on Friday!

Be good and have a great day!  I miss you guys already!!!

-Miss K  :)

MMMR

Today we learned about Mean, Median, Mode and Range.  You all sure knew a lot about it prior to class, so things went super smoothly!  Tonight's homework is the MMMR worksheet (the one with ten problems, not the one with the animals on it) and you will be able to use your notes and a calculator to help you complete the problems.  Please feel free to review the notes from class below.

Good luck with the homework tonight!  We will continue with MMMR tomorrow and we should be able to do a fun activity on Friday!  (I'm really excited for it!)

Paper coin

My sister found this paper quarter in my dad's old collection. It's from the 1870's. It says "fractional currency" on the bottom! Pretty cool!
-Miss K  :)

I hope that things went well with the sub today!

Please complete the charting worksheet if you didn't finish it during class!

See you tomorrow when we begin to tackle Mean, Median, Mode and Range!
